Arizona Wildlife Conservation Strategy

Rock Creek COA

Rock Creek is a medium priority water because it has perennial water and potential for native aquatic species management. However, its remote location, difficult access, and mixed native and non-native fish assemblages make management difficult. Since all current data is based on one, short 2008 survey of the lower reach of Rock Creek, additional surveys are needed. Headwater chub, while not documented in Rock Creek, may be present since headwater chub are present in the lower East Verde River and nearby Pine Creek. Potential future management might include consideration of a fish barrier near the East Verde River confluence, removal of non-natives, and possible introductions or augmentation of headwater chub.
