Arizona Wildlife Conservation Strategy

Pinto Creek (Pinto Creek) COA

The Pinto Creek management unit will be managed primarily for self-sustaining populations of native fish including longfin dace and desert sucker. The portion of the drainage upstream of West Fork Pinto Creek will be evaluated to determine if mechanical control of non-native fishes is feasible. If feasible, non-native fishes will be removed to benefit the native species. West Fork Pinto will be periodically assessed to determine post-Woodbury fire habitat recovery. When habitat is again suitable, Gila topminnow and longfin dace will be stocked both above Miles Ranch Trailhead and below the trailhead. Roundtail chub (previously classified as Gila chub) may be stocked into the stream below the upper waterfall near Miles Ranch trailhead. Mule Spring will be stocked with Gila topminnow after further coordination with Tonto National Forest.
