Arizona Wildlife Conservation Strategy

Mineral Creek (Mineral Creek-Gila River) COA

The Mineral Creek management Unit will be managed primarily for self-sustaining populations of native fish, and aquatic amphibians and reptiles. Roundtail chub will be repatriated to upper Mineral Creek above Big Box Dam Reservoir. Habitat will be evaluated to determine if it is suitable for spikedace, loach minnow, Gila topminnow, and desert sucker, and these species will be stocked if sufficient suitable habitat is present. Non-native fish will be eradicated from Devils Canyon from the Five Falls upstream. After the non-native fish have been eradicated, native species will be stocked including roundtail chub, desert sucker, longfin dace, and Gila topminnow. Habitat will be evaluated to determine suitability for spikedace and loach minnow, and these species stocked if sufficient suitable habitat exists.
