Little Colorado River - Hwy 261 to River Reservoir COA

The Little Colorado River between the highway 261 bridge upstream to River Reservoir will be managed primarily as a coldwater blue-ribbon trophy sportfishery. It will be managed for a trophy size class of rainbow trout and brown trout through wild self-sustaining populations and fish moving downsteram from River Reservoir. The Department is partnering with the White Mountain Lakes Foundation on a project to improve wild trout angling on this portion of the Little Colorado River. The project is proposed to start on State Trust lands in this unit, then work with willing landowners on the river through access agreements. This portion of the Little Colorado River will secondarily be managed for self-sustaining native fish populations of Little Colorado sucker, speckled dace, and bluehead suckers. The majority of the water rights are used for irrigation purposes and subject the river to drastic changes in flow and frequent drying.
